I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I bring extensive knowledge, understanding and life experience to my practice. I have earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master's in counseling psychology from the University of Houston. I have worked in a mental health field for several years. My personal life experience together with my work experience and education strengthen my effectiveness as a psychotherapist.
I work primarily with men, women, and couples who are capable of setting goals and doing the work necessary to be successful. To achieve this, I will assist and guide my clients. Together, we will work toward reaching your goals and building a more satisfying life.
As a grief and bereavement facilitator, I counsel people undergoing many types of loss and trauma. My personal experience has made me particularly adept in grief counseling. Life is full of all types of loss and it is in moving through our losses and life changes that we grow. Sometimes our ways of coping with a problem can be damaging and unhealthy. To learn to use better coping mechanisms, we may need help. The wise and courageous person realizes this and takes care of him/herself.
It is important that people be in touch with, and able to express, feelings and needs. Today, life moves so quickly, it is easy to lose touch with who you are and what you want. Psychotherapy facilitates the discovery of these needs and assists in building relationships.
TREATMENTS My approach to treatment is primarily psychodynamic although I work with other types of treatments if it is the most effective treatment, for example, Cognitive Behavioral Treatment (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). If, after assessment, prescription treatment appears to be necessary I will make a psychiatric referral, and will work closely with the prescribing doctor. My primary intention is always to heal the whole person. It is my firm belief that the client's relationship with the therapist is where the most significant healing occurs. I offer non-judgemental, unconditional positive regard to my clients and give them a warm, supportive, and safe environment where they are free to get in touch with their feelings and needs, and to appropriately express themselves.
OTHER TREATMENTS Psychodynamic Therapy - more commonly known as Talk Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) - Awareness of one's behavior and consciously changing it, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) - Extremely effective treatment for trauma as well as many others, Mind and body therapy. |
